Default Wierd Noise.

I have a V70 2.4 estate, drives well everything works. At 2000 RPM I have howling sound which dissappears at around 2500 RPM. It sounds like some form of resonance in the exhaust system, very similar to someone blowing into an empty bottle. Volvo are stumped, Iwonder if any V70 owners have the same problem? I have driven Volvos for over 40 years and have never had any serious bother.

Once had a similar noise problem with a 940 saloon. Turned out to be the windscreen trim that lifted just enough at 55mph to create in effect a 'reed' that created exactly the noise you describe. The cure was a new set of windscreen trim clips from Volvo.

One other thought. Could it be brake related? My V70 sometimes 'howls' if the handbrake shoes get a soaking - and there has been plenty of water around of late! Possibly dismantling, cleaning, fresh copper grease and re-assembly of all the brakes might help.

good luck

Jack
