So - The saga continues...
Mariner 70hp engine. Or Mercury Mariner, It's the old engine.

Who uses two stroke engines on their boats?

I've been using a mariner 40hp for nearly 9 years. I know it's ins and outs.
Ex RNLI engine, Pull start... Runs like a well maintained clock. I remove the carbs every year and clean them.

As per my post before You can all see I acquired a new vessel! It hit the water today but post checks as you do like
How do I get the cover off?

What parts need removing if it conks out etc...
I conveniently find a pull starter in the cover.

Anyway, Those in the know, The pee hole. Should it run hot or cold?
The only info I find is if it's too hot, somethings up.

The '40 ran cold, always...
This 70' runs warm. And after a good blast out in the bay and 4 mackerel in the bag, I begin to return home, cue loss of power followed by a stall.

Re-start, Idle, pee hole is hot.

I am going to "Service" this myself, except the water pump, Engine looks unloved. (Carbs off, fizzed in ultrasonic cleaner) Carb cleaner out to evict the spiders...

But the pee hole... Should it run hot?

Been away from boats for a while but we were advised that the tell-tale (pee hole) shouldn't be more than lukewarm. That was on a Honda 40hp. It sounds like inlet blocked or waterpump problem, but you're not new to the game so I guess you've checked for seaweed, plastic carrier bag blocking things up etc. Good luck!
