You are doing the right thing, Is that how much you can drain out or is 900ml your chosen amount?
Saying that, my truck's transmission is toasted. I mean it is completely pooched, Its being re-conned next week. I tried the transfusion method, I can just about extract nearly 5.5 litres from its sump. Then drop the pan (stupid americans cant put a pan in with a drain plug) to get another litre out. Figures show that in its transmission, the TC and cooler lines etc, hold a further 7 litres. I flushed nearly 20 litres through mine and it was still being extracted black, burnt and had metal bits in suspension. It does work, but not in my case. I did the transfusion method with my power steering fluid on the XC, think it took 2 litres to fully displace and make the fluid green. Unless your transmission is slipping, fluid is black and smells burnt, or is very dark, Go for it. It would just pay to get it changed eventually, there is a filter that needs changing. |

I have previously undertaken this mode with my Volvo XC90. I observed that by changing the gears through drive, N, P and R, it is actually a very poor way to do it as the subsequent dump came out looking really nice however 1 week later it was filthy again. I therefore agree that leaving gaps between dumps is a good idea.
However I would be tempted to release the large drain plug and remove a larger Qty. The reason for this is that the oil you currently remove is coming from the level plug, I.e off the top, whereas I would prefer it off the bottom for sediment etc. In reality I doubt it makes much difference. What you are doing is good. I did change the o-ring seal on the final dump. |

Thanks for the feedback, it looks like I'm safe to carry on
![]() Am I right to assume that, TCM reset is not necessary because I'm slowly changing the oil and thus giving the "adaptations" plenty of time to adapt? Quote:

As my car has now done 135,000mls I thought It was time to replace the ATF, So I rang my local dealer who at first said I should leave it alone as they had had problems with other cars after replacing the fluid! They agreed to do the job but then dropped the bombshell! £400.00 as a start price! I think I will pass on that!

I phoned my local chrysler stealership with my 300c, asking for a price on a fluid change, with filter. "It's in there for life" "I know that, but I want it changed" "It's in there for life" "Just give me a quote" after a 2-3 minute wait "Looking at ~£600 +vat and parts" Found a mercedes specialist in Bristol, ATF flush, filter change, £135. They price the job out. Probably because they don't want to do the job. |

Are you sure? Transferring the contents into a measuring jug would probably suffice.
What comes out, goes back in +-10ml for pump contents. |

I assume I would to reset the TCM because if I pump out most of the ATF in one go, the ATF quality has undergone a drastic change, and the TCM needs to know about this?
