How do you get the D5 turbo resonator off?
The lower clamp is fully accessible but the upper one is right behind the engine and I can barely see the clamp let alone touch it? Anyone done this before?

Quarter inch drive socket with bendy extension bars and knuckle joints and lots of patience mixed with swear words!

Ok, so in looking at the rear engine mount (which I believe to be leaking vacuum and therefore also a cause of the problem), I managed by chance to see the top of the resonator. This was by lying under the car with my head under the DPF and looking forward and up past the rear mount. That way I could see the top jubilee clip and wasted about 15 minutes trying to get a socket or screwdriver on it. I eventually realised this was pointless as the orange seal was clearly blown out so it couldn't have been tight anyway. I loosened the bottom clip and removed the 2 bolts holding the boost pipe under the engine and just pulled the resonator downwards and it came off. Separating it from the boost pipe under the engine was easy.
Installing the new silicone pipe was OK actually. I lubed it up at both ends with WD40 and just pushed it up onto the engine. The hard part is tightening the top jubilee clip. You will need a very long philips screwdriver or a long socket extension bar. You can see from the picture attached what a state the top orange seal was in. With it changed, all is working properly again. |
