V70 T5 2001 Misfire on startup and Idle
Hi guys, hope everyone is having a decent week I just wanted to ask if anybody may have an idea what's going on with my V70 T5.
When I start the car it will start & instantly die, I attempt to start it again and it will crank for about 2 seconds then start but I have to keep a little bit of gas on the pedal for the car to stay running. Eventually after about 30 seconds the throttle will respond and rev above 1000rpm and I can drive the car. When I come to a stop light the car will run rough and idle will jump all over the place. I've replaced the MAF so far but the symptoms are the same, no codes coming up on my basic scan tool. I've attached a short clip of the issue. Any advice from the community would be really appreciated! https://www.youtube.com/shorts/f97ZG-k2IcM |

uh oh I hope it's not .. but.. that was almost exactly how mine behaved when my throttle body went wonky
mine is NA though not turbo, so maybe the turbo lads will tell you something they know about instead.. in the end I replaced the throttle body and had to get it programmed in have you got a way of reading codes properly, perhaps put an SOS up for anyone nearby with VIDA you could check the fuses. two red ones next to each other in the engine bay fuse box top left of the box as you look from the front.. on mine at least one them is a supply to the throttle bit of a shot to nothing to be fair though Last edited by stuart bowes; Oct 31st, 2022 at 20:42. |

Thankyou mate appreciate you replying! Yeah that's a shout actually so I checked the fuses but I think it's a strong chance it could be the throttle body. Did you consider cleaning it at all or did you just decide to replace it?

well I can't say for sure but the early TB's are notorious so there's a fair chance I'm afraid..
I attempted a clean, no joy I attempted ordering the contactless sensor off ebay and replacing myself, I could read the position angle from it, but didn't cure the fault I checked the connector plug for voltage and that was all ok (i think in doing that I may have shorted and popped the fuse hence how I knew about that) but no in the end the only solution for me anyway was a replacement (ebay) throttle body and getting someone to program it in for me dealers will only do the programming if they sell you a new unit at something like £600 plus £100 or so programming I paid £140 i think for the 2nd hand unit and £60 to get it programmed (but then again it still could die again in the future who knows.. although it did come with a contactless sensor fitted and a refurb label) apparently the later yellow sticker ones are more reliable *** this is all assuming your issue IS the throttle body of course, I would get a 2nd opinion and / or read the codes properly first Last edited by stuart bowes; Nov 1st, 2022 at 02:04. |
