Yes, I have cleaned the oil separator after I bought the car, about 20k km ago or so. I'm probably gonna clean it again. But I think you might be right, the stub might be blovked, or the hose itself. I brought the hose home with me cause the small nipple outlet is still inside, I'm gonna check it, since I didn't thought of that before.
Correct me if I'm wrong. This is stud/hose from the nipple is to release excessive pressure from the oil separator? And so if it's clogged it will make a strain onde the system, is that it?
It'll be fine to drive with the 4mm hose undone. It might idle slightly lower but other than that you shouldn't notice a difference. Easy way to see if the manifold nipple is blocked is start the car and put your finger over it.

Speaking of which, your picture of the oil in the hose? That's normal. The small 4mm hose is used to suck the oil vapours from the oil trap/separator into the intake manifold at idle, and the big hose is used to suck the vapours and provide a better vacuum at other speeds.

I removed that whole system years ago as didn't want all this oil in my intake system. This year I enlarged the hole on top of the oil separator, pushed in a 90° plastic pipe and it just vents to atmosphere. I'd rather have the oil vapour on the outside than sucking all that back through the intake, even though venting to atmosphere (or catch can setups) tend to increase oil consumption.

Even with a perfect new PCV system, redblocks just breathe heavily on boost and/or high revs, so I live with the oil consumption and leak from the filler cap (although now it's less than before).

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
I went to Volvo and installed the new Y. Didn't even notice any difference. Thanks Dave and everyone else for the tips. Got a new clip for a fender trim that's been out for a while. It's starting to look like I want her to.

Now I have another thing to solve. The charcoal canister has 4 hoses. The fuel tank one and the other one (can't remember what it says) are not attached. Should I be worried? Shouldn't the fuel one be hooked to some sort of shut off or rollover valve? How do I track it? I'll take pics.

Have you considered installing an oil catch can? They go for 20 bucks.

Default Where do the evap can lines go to?

As explained above, me evap canister hoses for fuel tank and "carb bowel" go nowhere.
What's is the carb bowel one? And where should the fuel tank one attach? Does it run all the way to the fuel tank or some valve in the engine bay?

That stock oil separator is a catch can that drains back to the sump.

I've removed that evap canistor too. Two hoses run from that to the throttle body and a hard line from the fuel tank attaches to it.

Yeah I think there's a rollover valve at the tank end.

Yes, I've read the contentious thread back a few years ago. People were calling you explosive boy, fire hazard, etc. I didn't want to unbury it because of this question.
I knew where those 2 went, but I was curious about the other 2. Your diagram says the 4th is a plug. On my can it says carb bowel, whatever that is. Don't know if it is plugged. The other has a small hose, like 15cm, just droping down the side, just hanging there.

Yes, the PCV is a catch can, but it still sends sludge back to the intake. An improved design can not only prevent that effect, but also be easier to clean and better located. I'm considering it.

When you removed the canister what did you do to the hoses that run from it to the TB? Plugged them?

Where is the EGR vacuum controller located inside the engine bay?

Default Update

I did all the 4mm hose. I'll replace the others monday with rubber hose from Bosch instead of silicone.

The car idle did improve and I think that definitely at least one of the hoses had a very tiny leak. I did find out that the MAF hose to the turbo has cracks (how the hell can a rubber hose cost 90€???) and probably will fail rather soon.

I'm surprised your 97 car has EGR, mine doesn't but that valve is located here. You can also see how I plugged the evap ports. One is the same size plug as the intake manifold ports, the other I just used a silicone hose and spare screw from inside car.😅 Been like that for 8+ years.

I also just use small zip ties to secure the hoses on rather than those horrible clips! I find that the silicone vacuum hoses tends to 'stick' to the ports very well, never had a hose blow off.
