Volvosweden on Youtube has a very good instructional for replacing and resetting the rear parking brake. Obviously this is on fully functional brakes (though he does discuss pad/motor/fixing bolt replacements). I have followed his process for three pad changes now (winding piston back manually) and it has worked perfectly every time - with no error codes.

First time I disassembled them, just out of curiosity to see how it worked, I left the parking brake completely rewound when I reassembled it. Took three presses on the parking brake button before they worked. No problem after that.
But next time there was a Vida connection, it showed the registered error code for "parking brake timeout error" (I don't remember the exact words, but that's what it meant). |

Just to wrap this one up ….
Having managed to free off the parking brake by separating it from the brake caliper and manually winding back the piston, I took the car to a garage I’ve used before and they replaced both the caliper and motor for a little over £200. I know those won’t be OEM parts but am happy to have the car back on the road. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions and comments. |
