Obviously there's no point in turning off things that should always be on. It only adds the risk you forget to turn them on for no valid purpose.

I'm very situation aware.
What I dislike about new vehicles, is the dash is always back-lit, to the unaware it means dash lit, so must be my lights.
I've just got into a habit of knowing when to use lights and I'd like to have my control, not the cars control over them. Along with boosting longevity of my lamps.

This is where old cars excel. No instrument lights, no lights at all. But that's another story for the campfire...

DRL are not about the driver but about other drivers and you cannot have control over them whatever you do.

When they should be on all the time anyway, what's the point of that? You don't adjust the timing of the ignition manually any longer, like you had to do with the Ford model T, because it was better to make that automatic.

Same here.

You could just turn the switch to centre, which is parking lights.

That doesn’t work. Once the ignition is switched on the dipped beam (DRL) lights up.
