Default 1999 C70 Coupe TDI - Rare Project Car !!

First of all, yes it is a diesel!!

It's one of 3 converted by a Welsh Rally Engineer, this being the last one. I bought it from him about 2 years ago with the intention of getting it back on the road as I always liked the VAG diesel and the original C70 coupe. However the usual/well used phrase 'too many projects and not enough time' has to be used and it's just sat at my unit so I think the time has come...

No mot obviously, will need a thorough going through as been sat more or less since 2016. Brakes sticking but starts, drives and stops (in a fashion) and has a new battery. No history, one key, pics do flatter it, can't remember the exact mileage but about 220k and logbook in my name. Looking for offers around £950

Any questions drop me a PM or reply on here 👍

Ah I remember this guy from years back, no idea he made 3 of them!

Kinda perfect combo, as C70 is a nice place to be for big miles but none of the petrol's are affordable to run to big miles.

Will be well into the 50's mpg wise with the slippery shape of the C70 instead of S or V70.

I'm literally banning myself from any new projects this year otherwise I'd have had that instantly, possibly moving overseas for a few years so need to thin my own fleet.

Whoever buys it, do not mess it up, takes a lot of work to make this conversion happen. Then hit me up in a few years.

Cheers for that bud 👍 Would really like it to go to someone who'd put it back on the road as is ! As you said, must gave taken 10's of hours to do from a donor car. Don't want to sell it as it's so unusual/rare but just can't see me getting round to it sadly...

Hi John,

Looks interesting!

I see that it's still on DVLA's books as a T5, so what would be involved as regards making it 'officially' a diesel?

Also, did the gearbox also come out of the donor car - or does it still have the petrol's gearing?

Best wishes fro the New Year,
David

Yep still registered as a petrol so you'd need to apply to have the classification changed ideally with a covering letter from a vat registered garsge saying it's been a competent conversion etc. The gearbox came with the engine out of the donor V70 2.5d 👍

Cheers

John

Any that I've had over the years as extra cars I've done up and sold to mates and family, most of them are still going. P80 TDI are literally the ideal 'does everything' sort of a car. Have become fairly rare due to bad mechanics, bad practice and folks not looking after stuff in the UK and them being robbed for parts by the VW van guys (manifolds, pump and injectors usually). Or Euro 3 v70 2003-5 are also ideal.

D5252t in a coupe likely get very good MPG, seats don't folk or anything, but for a long distance cruiser, literally ideal.
