The later gear reduction PMG starters come with threaded flanges meant for metric bolts. The early starters have unthreaded flanges with through bolts and retaining nuts. The PMG starters are meant to be retained by the bolts with no need for nuts with the bolts being inserted from the bell housing side. You do not need to drill out the flanges if you get the correct metric bolts AND you have room between the bell housing and the firewall to insert the bolts.

On my 142, the bolts normally insert from the front and the retaining nuts are on the bell housing side. There is insufficient clearance to the firewall to allow insertion of the long bolts from the bellhousing side. The Amazon / 1800 may allow this. Or, if you install the starter while the engine is on an engine stand this eliminates the firewall conflict.

On my 142, I did not drill out the threaded flange to allow fitment of the original bolts. I just purchased slightly small diameter bolts that passed through the threads in the flange. They have worked just fine for the last 7 years.
