Default 8 month old Aux belt snapped.

Hi all,

I had my aux belt changed at Volvo V60 2013 D3 in July and its just snapped a clean snap straight across so no tangling around the cam belt.

AA recovered to local garage (non volvo) no contact yet
My question is the alternator pulley was fine when I spun it and also the tensioner. So could it have been the a/c or steering pully seized up?

I didn't really want to go to main dealer as like we all know very expensive blah blah.

I'm just wondering how an 8 month old 5000 mile orginal belt snapped.

Obviously very lucky it didn't jump a tooth.

Many thanks

Did a garage change the belt? If so I would be getting back to them, they must have a warranty of sorts and this is 10 years too early to have broken!

Yes main dealer but when I asked only 6 months cover on belts. Hahah so took it elsewhere. They wasn't going to budge. Horrible to deal with.

Thanks

A clean snap sounds like an issue with the belt rather than anything else. A sticking or damaged pulley would cause fraying or burn marks/friction marks all over the belt.

Just pop a new one on (genuine Volvo) and be done with it.

I’d be appealing to Volvo UK customer services, as that failure does sound like a faulty product. Not to mention, had your car been new, then it’s reasonable to assume the belt would have had longer than a 6 month warranty.
I also wouldn’t blame you for not going back to the dealer that fitted it ever again.

Quick update. CLUTCH PULLEY SEIZED. So that's how much I know. Lucky belt was new otherwise it would have shredded.
