Pilot Assist on AAOS
Is 'full' Pilot Assist (ie adaptive cruise with lane keeping) directly selectable via the steering wheel on AAOS (as with Sensus) or is it a centre screen selection?
I seem to recall people complaing about it on AAOS?

Unfortunately, not yet implemented for the AAOS. You have to turn it on in the settings menu which assis you’d like to use: lane keeping with the cruise control or only adaptive cruise control.

Thanks. Just to be clear, can you set adaptive cruise with lane keeping and will it remember that setting in future? Or is lane keeping only available with standard cruise control?

Yes and yes. You can set it and it will remember.

You make the mode selections on the centre screen but the on/off is activated with the button (left hand side) on the steering wheel. You can also select speed up/down on the steering wheel. It’s pretty much the same as any other manufacturer, apart from having to choose lane assist from the centre screen.

What about speed limiter? Can you toggle between limiter and cruise on the steering wheel, or is that also a settings adjustment?

I currently use the adaptive cruise control a lot when driving around town/rural roads and switch to full lane keeping pilot assist when on larger roads / dual carriageways / motorways.
In sensus this is easy and all done through cycling through the steering wheel button. And as most of my journeys include a mix of roads i use a mix of acc and full pilot assist. So now with Android Auto this isn’t going to be possible without multiple presses of the touchscreen ? I need to replace my XC90 shortly and I’m not seeing many reasons why a new one with Android Auto is in any way better as it seems to be missing a lot of things I use ! (Usb music being another one…)

Apparently not. You can install some third-party app in the car which gives some functionality but it’s not a built-in capability of the car anymore.
The dealer I saw the other day said it’s not on the ‘roadmap’ either, whatever that means.

I have seen a post somewhere where Volvo Customer Care had emailed the OP back to say that pilot assist switching on the steering wheel is coming soon. my dealer also confirmed that this is a major request from many users, so I think it will happen soon. It certainly wouldn't put me off ordering a new car. It's not that much of a PITA to switch pilot assist on in the settings for now.
