Default 1800E Temp Gauges

The guy doing my car says he's got gremlins in the oil and water temp gauges and he's not sure if it's gauges or sensors.
He's starting with the sensors and has asked me to ask you if anyone has any temp vs resistance schematics that say what value these things should be sending for a given temp.
Or any other advice if you've been here.
Thanks very much.
David.

David;

1800E Temp as well as Fuel Gauges are supplied by the VStab, so BEFORE suspecting those gauges (or Senders) themselves, proper operation of the VStab must be established.

See: http://www.sw-em.com/temperature_gau...E-ES_notes.htm

Gremlins? ...can he be any less specific?

Good Hunting!

Thanks Ron I've sent him that.
He says the V Stab isn't the issue but for £30 I think I'll treat myself to a new one.
Apparently it's the water temp that's going nuts (intelligent analysis) but this is coming to me 3rd hand.
Going over tomorrow to speak with the monkey.
David.

David;

If your mechanic is aware of the VStab and its function, that's a good start...next test might be to connect fixed resistors in place of the Senders...these temp sensitive Resistor Senders can develop intermittents or even opens...

...and I don't know about calling them "monkey", unless that is a term of endearment where you are...if this is a mechanic who does a good and fair job for you, my advice is treat them with respect and hold them dear to your heart!

Cheers

Ron. Sorry it's an old English term referring to The Organ Grinder and the Monkey fable/ paradox, it's frequently used here and there was no insult or prejudice intended.
There'll be stuff out there describing it more accurately and eloquently than I can.
David.
