XC60 running lumpy after auxiliary belt snapped
Hi all.
I need some help with my 2010 XC60 2.4 D5 manual So a bit of background into what's happened. I had finished work late and needed to get home ASAP so my wife could go to work. I was playing fuel station roulette and on my way up a hill, my car started to struggle. I was 300 meters from the fuel station. I pulled up and fueled it to the max and drove home, which is around half a mile. Just before I pulled up, my car came up saying Critical Charging Error and a red stop light. I guessed there and then what it was, which was confirmed by opening the bonnet. The auxiliary belt had broken and was loose on the runner. IMG-20221102-WA0002(1).jpg I bought a new belt and tensioner and replaced that and the air conditioning belt. Replaced the MAP sensor, cleaned the intercooler sensor and the MAF sensor. I've also changed the fuel filter and ran STP cleaner through. Vida says MAF and something about the turbo. Can't see your images, Merchofdoom, so you'll need to load directly to this site (thumbnail) or an alternative image hosting site and post the links/URLs.
I'm not overly familiar with this engine/ECU but I imagine you'll need to preform various adaptions via VIDA. Someone with more experience on these will advise soon.

When the belt broke was it a clean break or shredded. What can happen is parts of the belt can make its way into the timing belt and cause the belt to jump. Your extremely lucky the belt didn’t wrap around the crank and then kill the engine as they pull the cam belt off also.
I would make sure you have all bits of the broken belt. I would then have the timming checked if this rough running only happened when the belt broke.

As above, renowned for it on these later D5's, more like aux belt roulette unfortunately! Folk don't change them till they break as on most cars yeah you loose your aux items, but won't cause much other damage, but on these they do have a weakness for derailing the cam belt.
Timing VERY likely to have jumped, get it to someone who knows these and get a proper look at it (jacked up, wheel arch out and inspect the timing marks), if its one tooth out it might not have caused any mechanical damage but won't run right. If its been more than a few years since last timing belt job, maybe worth just replacing it as its going to be same labour to realign as it is to just replace. |
