Default Reversing auto brake

I have a six month old XC60 and amongst the numerous niggles that annoy me with it, the one that drives me mad is when reversing I have to go through the process of pressing the R button and then the 'Turn Off' button. If I don't and get remotely close to anything the brakes slam on with such a jolt that the first thought is that I have hit something. Is there any way at all to turn this annoying feature permanently please?

Not being smart, but try reversing a bit slower with your foot on the brake pedal, its activating because it thinks you are about to hit something.

However if you are parking close to a hedge /wall you will have to switch off as it will try to stop you hitting it, you will notice the beeps when reversing, just apply the brakes gently and the system will be less inclined to slam the brakes on.

Its main purpose and will save you is when your in a busy car park, reversing out and someone comes along behind you, car will stop itself and save you a major repair bill.

Giftgrub, your last comment above is referring to a different safety system i.e. cross traffic alert which is Radar based using the BLIS Radar sensors behind the rear bumper. The OP is referring to the reverse brake system on the AAOS cars which uses the reversing sensors and also the cameras to help prevent bumping things.
My reverse braking system often activates as I am reversing into the garage when the camera detects the texture change of the gravel driveway to the concrete garage floor as an obstacle and jams the brakes on regardless of what speed I am going at (which is usually very slow as its a pretty tight fit).
Not found a way to auto/permanently switch the system off so have to just turn it off every time when I reverse in.
I'm sure it will prevent me hitting something one day but mostly its just an annoyance.
