Default Coolant Rear of motor.... in line with Axle?

Car on after driven and hood up noted that coolant just above min line.
Turned engine off and went and got some water to top up(no coolant on hand)
Get back to car with water and now 1/2 between Max and min.
Open lid and put a cup of water and just over max line. Cap on.
Turn engine on and in park Run car for 5 minutes and no movement of coolant amount.
Park car in garage.
Next day coolant rear of motor and on axle and garage floor???
Is there an overflow at rear of engine as I thought only upfront?

Not intended to get alarm bells ringing but all hose clips are worth checking on a regular basis:~
Some can rust through unexpectedly, particularly the hidden ones.

The use of stainless hose clips are worthwhile.
