We have numerous cars in the family and drive others too, so have breakdown cover for each individual family member anyway.
How do you get the oil and filter parts for 58 quid? I was in ECP buying some oil for the motorhome and lamenting that a litre of oil was now knocking on the door of 20 quid. I made the comment that it would be a lot cheaper if I bought 5 litres in one go, but the guy on the counter said surprisingly it is not a lot cheaper. He said it was typical to be at least 70 quid for 5 litres of decent oil.... Maybe he was just exaggerating, or maybe ECP are just expensive?

Breakdown cover isn't very expensive unless you go for the AA or RAC.

Any garage can do any sort of service pretty much. I don't see the benefit of main dealer once the car is out of warranty, even in warranty a specialist will do it to book to maintain the coverage.

Thanks for all the reply’s.
I think I’ve just been fortunate with my other cars that I’ve not had any “expensive” services before. My 2011 135k miles Pheaton is still on original disks and pads - I do drive these cars briskly but economically.
Thanks for the concern on the lift, I’ve had it years and bought it for messing with other “play” things and changing wheels - winters to summers and vica.
It’s rated for 2.75 tonnes and has been great. I’ve used it to service my VW Pheaton between the VW long life services from new in 2011 - That’s actually heavier than the XC90.
We’ve had the on call from when I got the car in 2016 and used it twice, once when a module stopped it starting I think - it was parked in the garage at the time and the recovery chap used the 9v battery trick to release the brakes so he could drag it out of the garage.
As some of the other cars we drive aren’t covered by on call we’re covered by RAC, so the on all isn’t essential, although I might look at having software updated.
I’ve bought all the genuine service bits online, circa £180, I’ll either do it myself or with the chap who services my old Merc. I might then in a few months get one of the cheaper services before winter to get software update and on call.

I’m hoping EX90 will be cheap to service for first years with only costs being depreciation. In the process of getting solar fitted so hoping it’s summer fuel costs will be covered.

Thanks Simon.

I get whilst the XC90 service costs might put you off. I do wonder what I might do when I am through my five year service plan.

Do you mind me asking what the logic is with the EX90? I am struggling to understand the cost of them so a bit of background might help many of us with this inevitable journey and when to jump.

Booked my 2018 V90 in yesterday for 5 year service with Agnews, Belfast, the local main dealer.
A helpful lady told me that the full price was approx £1100 but that includes cambelt. She then went on to explain that since the car has only 38000 miles the cambelt was not required so the cost would be £302 pounds.
I think sjc's dealer receptionist does not know the job or is taking the mick.
His car should require a 'basic' service...oil and filter plus cabin filter.

I use a small local garage run by an ex-Peugeot mechanic. Not that it matters, an engine is an engine.

Last service on the V60 was £165, that was a "major" service. I rarely bother with the minor one to be honest. I could see no justification for the main dealer pricing given the only time it went to a franchised dealer for a service they overfilled the oil.

He also services my wife's 3.0D Maserati. Last service on that was £145. The Maserati dealer wanted £990 last time I asked in 2018. That was for an oil change and NOTHING else - they didn't even clean it unless you paid extra. However, a car is a car...
