I just wish Volvo would come fully clean on this matter and explain exactly what they meant by a ‘design change’ – was it intentional or was it due to circumstances beyond their control?
I suppose it could be a compatibility issue but I would have thought that Volvo, knowing they were going to use AAOS, would have specified their hardware to be compatible.

If it is a compatibility issue I think it's extremely unlikely Volvo would offer an audio hardware retrofitting service to restore this feature.

My personal view is that the design change was indeed intentional. We will probably never know the rationale, but perhaps it may be related to (perceived?) lack of usage amongst most owners, so not worth implementing?

When they finally upgrade from AAOS Ver 11 to Ver 13 things might improve.

My view would be they said it is a design change to appease regulator and at any time they might fix it, after all nothing is needed to effect a change here and the Ts and Cs tell you functionality can change at any time, there is no separate hardware for this functionality, Volvo are just not very good at software.

It's something I don't know if my car has or not, I don't recall seeing it but have a setting for driver centric sound and whole car, never felt the need to really fiddle, it just sounds good whatever.

Many thanks ChatsV60

This is now getting quite interesting. I’m not an Android developer – but I wish I was.

This thread has opened up a whole new dimension of knowledge that those inquisitive car owners will benefit in having a better understanding of.

Many moons ago I worked for GM, and was a specialist on their newly introduced ECM technology and fibre backbone systems. Having this knowledge was a real benefit when it came to owning one of these cars – the GM dealer had no chance of playing me for a fool!

The same thing is happening now with these new Android systems, as probably the majority of us (myself included) are completely oblivious to how it really works, thus making us vulnerable to being flim flamed by Volvo dealers and Volvo HQ.

I’ll be spending some good conversation time with our inhouse Android developers now, supplying lots of coffee!

It hasn't. Car is on 2.9 - I checked before leaving the dealer. Switch is between adaptive and standard cruise it seems, mine doesn't have adaptive so it's necessary to go to the screen to switch. The left and right buttons seem to do nothing.
