GPS Aerial (shark fin) on XC60
Hi, my satnav was lost and finally Volvo have diagnosed as a faulty GPS aerial and will need replacing at £250. 2016 XC60.
Tempted to replace myself as I think just stuck to the roof with 3M tape with a used part. Q1 has anyone else done this and any tips or comments? Q2 can I buy any colour used one and swop over the internals of the fin so as to keep my colour matched shark fin? Thank you for any comments? Paul |

It is stuck to the roof- but its a one piece seal which you will need to replace with the proper part .
You also need to get the headlining down at the rear to release the two connectors from inside. - which is the tedious bit. Not sure if you can remove the inners from the fin - didnt try that, I was trying to solve a leak, tho I would have though that it was possible . You cut the old seal with some fishing line - otherwise you risk damaging the roof. Just spotted yours is a 2016 - mine was a 2014 - is your same model? |

Thanks for that reply.
That is really useful and I think any thought of removing the headlining, will put me off and l will leave to someone who has experience. It would be more than annoying if the headlining was damaged by my ham fistedness! Thanks again - really appreciate your help. |

The headlining was discoloured over an area above the rear side window and water dripped out from behind the plastic trim piece that covers the edge of the headlining across the top of the rear door opening.
If you remove that you will probably be able to get your hand above the headlinignto satisfy yourself wheer the eater is coming from ..... there arent many places higher up than the the rear door! The cables run into the rear quarter I think - so they channel the water that way. I did it last spring time -It did cure the leak though I have just noticed a wet patch on the boot floor this weekend............ |

Can you not retrofit a generic GPS aerial under the dash on top of the glovebox.
My wife was a GLA (don't judge me!) with a faulty GPS aerial and that's what the Mercedes forums are suggesting as an easier fix

GPS Aerial connection
Hi, gents,
Just wanted to ask if anybody knows what device/module the GPS cable is connected to after the RDAR module (sometimes called amplifier). I've got my satnav stopped working (not finding my car position), VIDA says "GPS aerial short to ground". Tried all the battery' disconnections, map upgrades, etc. Looks like it is hardware problem, but cannot find the cable's route (. Regards, Alex |

This may have answered my question "My Satnav is Lost".. I've suspected the fin, this sounds like exactly the same issue..

Gps ariel
It seems water had got into the Ariel and two leads had corroded.
Did not take too long to fix but bill was approaching £900 Nigel |
