Default Headlight Wiper Suffering from an Overdose of Viagra!

My o/s righthand driver's side headlight wiper is now running through about 90 degrees (normal parked position to vertical just peeking over the top of the bonnet before returning to the park position) when it is wiping in the headlight wash/wipe cycle.

The car is a '98 V70 but, the same Bosch headlight motors have been fitted to countless Volvo models from way back!

Whlst I am pretty sure what the problem is and how to fix it I have never taken the o/s motor out of a 850/V(etc)70 of the era.

Looking on YouTube it seems that removal of the n/s lefthand motor is easy whilst the o/s righthand one is a rather different far more complex job as a result of lack of space due to 'other stuff' in the way behind the motor.

I was wondering if anyone had actual experience of removing the o/s righthand motor before I get down and dirty?

Cheers, Bob.

Default Right hand side (UK driver's side) headlamp wiper motor

Firstly if it stays stuck at 12 o'clock, remove the wiper blade (the nut that bolts the splined bit is under a cap that will move towards you) and refix so that it is more or less horizontal on the little protruding stop when switched off.

If the problem is the motor itself, sadly, the Haynes guide is defective as loosening the ECU and plastic ducting from the ECU I found to be nigh impossible (so I gave up!), so there's not enough room to get the motor out. The nearside motor is much easier to get out as there isn't any ducting in the way.

The easiest way is removing the bumper, which involves taking the three rivets out of each of the inner mudguards (both sides), and undoing a few bolts. While you're at it, change the left hand motor as well, as they will both be old and on the way out. You can then access the wiper motor from underneath, and drop it out (after unbolting it).

I've done it, IIRC I did it by loosening the assembly that holds the ECUs, removing a few other bits I can't remember and I managed to fiddle it out eventually. I definitely didn't remove the bumper, but I do recall it being a bit of a mission to get it out.
