Default Auto hold engaging when not turned on

My 2019 XC90 Inscription with 52,000 miles has intermittently started auto holding the vehicle when Auto hold is not selected. The car has always been serviced by Volvo and brakes were done about 4,000 miles ago and was fine till recently. I notice it seems to happen when the RPMs are low low 500 or so. Is this normal? It's running well otherwise.

500 RPM is not normal I am afraid. Most engines runs at 800 - 950 RPM region when at idle.

I might be off a a couple hundred RPM but wanted to indicate it only seems to happen when idling low.

The autohold puts the brakes on when you stop, but I've found on many cars I've driven that you still get a degree of it with them off in that the hill hold brake will sometimes cut in even if you aren't on a hill.

The difference to me seems to be the engine stays off when you lift your foot off the brake if the autohold is on but restarts immediately if it's not on - there's still a sensation that you are sometimes pulling against the brakes when pulling away and I really wish they didn't do that.

I might not have described the problem correctly but I think I found the problem. A loose nut behind the wheel. Somehow I deselected Driver Preference and I think that had something to do with it. Thanks for all replies. My only complaint about my XC90 is that you can select or deselect all kinds of options without realizing it. I wish there was a lock or a prompt that would say "are you sure you want to do that"
