Rear break pads and dics quote from main dealer
My XC40 T3 auto has gone in for its first MOT and failed on rear breakpads which are below 1.5mm.
The main Volvo dealer where it's in for the MOT has recommended new discs along with the pads at a cost of £500. I realise I'm going to be spending more at a main dealer but is this price way to high or about right? Car has done 27k miles on mostly town and dual carriageway driving |

Based on limited information I'd say he's having a giraffe....
Trade price of the genuine parts is £200 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195409653...IAAOSwj7FjRrsT Should be < 1 hour to fit. And I don't believe unless there's corrosion that it needs new discs at 27k. At 67k - maybe. Unfortunately if your pads are <1.5mm that will be failed as a dangerous defect and you cannot legally drive the car, even to be repaired, even though the brake performance is satisfactory. Of course you could go an collect the car and the chances of you being stopped are negligible to zero...

I would doubt you need new BRAKE discs at 27,000 miles.
Having said that I do wonder if all the components on modern cars are sh*te as a work colleague had to get all discs and pads replaced at 2 years old and 20k on a Vauxhall Moka thingy

The Volvo dealers I’ve used in the past would refuse to renew the pads on their own. I’d tell them that the disks were done on the last pad chat but that made no difference. Nice little money spinner

ha ha the old brake disc con our fairly new Peugeot went in for its first service and the dealer told my wife the pads were low and the discs were worn i then returned the next day to question there decision and they told me the same yarn . i then promptly said i would like to make a warranty claim for the said parts as they were obviously sub standard if they were worn in 15k miles . after some deliberating amongst there selves they returned an announced that we could probably get another 10k miles before they would need to be changed.......i wonder how many people fall for this kind of mis information we never returned or gave that dealer any more of our custom.
