Default Radio code problem

My 1990 740 has the original radio cassette. I changed the battery and now have EEE on the display. The manual says this should reset to code after 1 hr but it doesn't
Is there some way of forcing a reset?

You do have to leave the radio switched ON and displaying EEE for the reset to work and it might not be exactly an hour.

If you entered the right code and still got EEE then some of the diodes that configure the code internally might have failed. This can potentially be resolved.

Default solved!

Thanks for your help, I tried disconnecting the battery overnight and it reset so I entered code successfully next morning.
