One thing I figured that works is when I stop the car, I open the doors with the switch near the window controls and I only have to pull the handle once. Or, disable the auto locking function.
as far as i know the first pull on the handle disengages the deadlocks the second opens the door.

Some have said it would be better using 3-in-1 or similar rather than WD40 as a lubricant.
Properties of WD40 are very short lived, mainly because it isn't designed to be a lubricant whereas 3-in-1 and the likes are.

On further reading others have said 3 in one can gather dirt and dust, so all very conflicting really.

If you have a read of the the post by willin Jan 29th 2016 “Driver's outside door handle sticking open”, it sounds as though it’s a common enough fault.
If you do a search on the forum you will find other postings about the same problem.

No one seems to have posted any pictures showing where they have filed the millimetre off.
I’m hoping I can remove the door handle like in the video I put a link to and not have to remove the door card/trim as they are such a pain as stupid plastic clips always seem to break on removing them.
As I said the handle on mine is sticking when trying to open the door so I will need to take a look at it at some point otherwise I could find myself having get in from the passenger side and climb over the gear lever as mine is a manual box.
Knowing me when doing that, I’ll more than likely get cramp in my leg .

If mine persists I’ll have to try some of the product that was linked. WD40 was what was to hand in the garage. I wasn’t suggesting it was a must use item just it’s what I had and worked. Didn’t actually give it any further thought until seeing your post.

No, it opens normally from the inside. I don't have automatic locking switched on.

The handle on the driver's door on our V70 was starting to need a bit more of a tug than it should. I gave the openings a dose of 'Action Can' PTFE dry lubricant which sorted it for a long while. Could do with another squirt now actually. The advantage of this type of spray is that it doesn't leave a sticky or oily residue for dust and fluff to stick to. If you're a smoker DON'T SMOKE when using it, and wash your hands well before you light up.

Yep. Dry PTFE lubricant or dry graphite powder will work better than WD40 or anything like that.

The brand WD40 actually make a very good dry PTFE product. It's in a carrier solution, so you squirt it where you need it, the carrier evaporates off and you are left with the dry PTFE where you need it.

I tried dry PTFE, but that doesn't seem to have sorted it. have now bought a can of ACF-50 and will try that...

Watched this yesterday. Maybe the wiring issues they noted have something to do with your intermittent issues?

Note to all - Lubricate your door hinges regularly..... Replacement hinge pivots are 'easy' to fit but expensive, and by the looking of it can wear earlier than you might expect. https://www.wd40.com/products/white-lithium-grease/ my current grease for that.

Good luck - let us know how it works out.

ACF-50 isn't a lubricant. It's a water displacer and coating that sticks around on the metal. Might attract dust too. I wouldn't have thought it would be a good choice, but who knows?

It's a strange business. The release buckle on the driver's seatbelt on our car had a lot of free travel and needed a lot of final effort to get it to release. I tried dry PTFE and it was better but still not 'right'. Out of ideas I tried WD40 and bingo - worked a treat!
