Took my siren off today after a few alarm service required notifications.
Opened it up and battery still intact and reading 2.4v However, the outer metal casing and inner plastic casing were sodden, moisture has made its way into the sealed unit and corroded a few areas of the circuit board. Such a bad location on the R-Design to put this. Part Number says FoMoCo 6G9N-19G229-BK Looked on flea bay and lots of them with part numbers ending in DE etc, what the difference?

No idea what the difference is but you'll see in the posts I replaced mine with a Mazda one ending in CG and it worked fine.

So, I've had my circuit board cleaned up and the battery checked out (it comes in handy to work in electronics factory sometimes)
I was wondering how to check the siren off the car? Trigger it somehow, there are three pins connecting it to the car, anyone know what each one does?

In relation to this: i have just bought a new siren unit foor my 2015 XC60 and will fit it myself, but how does the wheel arch liner come out....somewhere i heard there are metal rivets?
I'm new to volvo so not sure? Thanks |

You will see some T25 screws at the lower front and rear of the liner. Remove these along with two 10mm plastic nuts either side of the strut. Then the liner just unclips. The alarm siren is bolted to the chassis via a bracket. 2 10mm bolts.
The only rivet you may come across could be for the front mudflap if you have them fitted. There is usually the T25 screws and one rivet which from memory is actually plastic but you might not actually need to remove it, it’s a while since I’ve had one out.

Had this warning pop up for a while now. Dealer wanted £500 to replace the siren unit. I demurred.
But lately it's taken to triggering the alarm when parked up - no siren means only the indicators flashing and the dashboard monitor light gives a clue - so the system obviously isn't happy and isn't always setting itself properly. Took the car to a specialist to have the module replaced (quote is <£200!). Turns out, he's just found out the alarm module (it's a V60CC AWD) is a direct Sweden order item - none in stock in the UK. Given it's a known issue and not an uncommon one, that seems an odd turn of events. Anyway, unit on order, hopefully next week for fitting. I'll ask for the old one back so I can have a look at it. Maybe it'll clean up and be reusable in future. |
