XC70 for sale, very tidy, some history, but no MOT
Hi All,
Latest news is that I've been offered £300 from a local scrappie. collected. Is that as much as I can expect for this car? Any comments/advice gratefully received! XC70 SE D5 March 2007, 107k, 6 speed Geartronic, dark grey metallic, lots of history. CV05 OUD. Log book V5 present. 6 miles SW of Perth. Bodywork and interior excellent NO MOT (expired January) and on SORN. Sadly I can't do the necessary work. The car passed its long test drive in January 23 with flying colours. It looked (and still does) well cared for and in good order BUT... Almost immediately, I had a ENGINE SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED on the dash, and it started to loose power occasionally on hills, along with a judder around 2000 rpm. Gearbox specialist gave it a clean bill, telling me to look at the turbo. Turbo was very coked up, so this was serviced with some new parts and swirl flaps etc done at the same time by an excellent indy. I can confirm all details with invoices I flushed the transmission properly with the right stuff... eventually the fluid ran clear red... A re-set of systems at Volvo main dealer (£175), a look at the injectors and anti-skid system were next on the agenda but I need a car too much and must now replace it. When it goes, it is 100% as you would expect, but several thousand miles later we have not solved the judder problem or loss of power. I had a 2005 one before this. Here's the job list suggested by the Volvo dealer: gearbox solenoid(s) show as faulty, though gearbox specialists said there were no faults showing in summer 23. fr wishbone bushes fr & rr droplink bushes rr anti roll bar loose rr diff damper worn rr brake calipers 4 flex brake hoses split prop shaft internal wear rr silencer holed Minor oil leak (may have been solved by work to turbo, rigid hose seals) otherwise suspect it may be from oil filter housing n/s dipped beam u/s Radio only works on LW/MW: FM works for a bit then cuts out to total silence. rr tyres excellent, front poor. The interior is pretty much faultless. A shampoo of carpets would bring it up to excellent. Dog guard. The wheels, though looking grubby now, will polish up well. The body work is free of dents. There is a patch of tiny white spots on rr o/s door. It received a very quick cold water wash before I took the photos. There are two light, short (1") scratches. Very nice dark grey metallic. I will be removing the towbar to put on the new one. It seems crazy to scrap this very clean-looking car so if anyone wishes to make me an offer please get in touch on 07796 301 920. Any test welcome. Farm tracks.. Otherwise, as I am replacing it with a 2006 XC70 I will remove as many bits as I can and it will be scrapped. Thanks for reading this far. If you are interested, please call me on 07796 301 920 asap Forty Last edited by FORTYVALVE; Mar 5th, 2024 at 11:32. Reason: latest news... |

If you took that to the right mechanic I'm sure those faults could have been sorted, seems crazy to scrap such a low mileage car. Why sell for such a pitiful price too when you could keep it for spares?

I’ll bet the Scrappy doesn’t scrap it!

Suspect someone would have snapped that up if it hadn’t been so far away. It looks/looked lovely.

You guys are all correct! Does seem crazy... Need to find that right mechanic though. I've still got it but short of space so may not for much longer

Cannot you get an auction house like Mathewson in Yorkshire to flog it, you're bound to get some payback from that and save a potentially good car from the scrapheap? Someone would like the challenge!

Hi All,
Thanks for all the responses. I have sold the car for a teeny bit more than the scrapper was offering so at least it is likely to make old bones after all! |
