Yes, as lovely as it looks that was my first thought. I doubt it has been inspected and deemed road worthy before it can be driven legally.

I must declare an interest in this. It is my son's car that he restored 14 years ago and now time to move on. It was a joint effort with him 'sometimes' taking notice of my advice! It taught us both a lot, him, mechanical and attention to detail and me, our father and son relationship.
https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/...-convertible-1 Of all the things that the restoration involved there was only one scary moment. Having fitted the new hood, we then had to cut the hole in the mohair for the rear window. That first stab with a stanley knife was quite nerve wracking - first we cut a cross in the centre of the opening and then pinned it at 12,6,3 and 9 o'clock and then worked around to the corners. It took us a couple of minor adjustments to ensure there were no wrinkles. It will be intersting to see how it goes.

Firstly, many thanks for clearly stating a declaration of interest, and with a restoration that looks that good after 14 years, you and your son should be quite proud of it. Whilst it isn’t a type of motor that floats my boat, anyone looking for an Escort Cabrio, probably won’t go far wrong with it. Those sort of ‘one chance only ‘ jobs, i tend to do as much research as I can, measure thrice and repeat, say three Hail Marys, and close the eyes Cheers Steve |

Certainly I subscribe to the measure twice before cutting once philosophy.

Granted that's usually for repairs on Lucas electrical systems but sure it applies to the "one-shot-only" jobs too. Courtesy of https://www.mez.co.uk/lucas.html Also worth checking the link to the Haynes page on that link.

It must be a little strange to find discussion on the motor car you have just bought in an obscure (and sometimes slightly irreverent) thread in the 200 series section of this forum. Alan

I once owned a Mk2 Cavalier Convertible and bought a Mk1 Golf convertible for the ex-wife. Neither were ever driven on the road though, turned out i'd been stiffed when i bought the Cav (it belonged to the scrapyard he worked for, they didn't even know it was gone!) as it wasn't his to sell and the wife decided she didn't like the colour of the Golf and wanted an auto instead so that was sold quick and cheap :real_mad:
