XC 60. ABS light
While reversing a boat trailer into Loch Lomond, I went down a crater and the nearside rear went deeper than I would have liked I got back out and wondered if I had done any damage. First week all ok, but today I got ABS and traction warning. Is there a module on that rear near side that may have got immersed. Need to check if 4wd is working tomorrow in the grass field. Any ideas?

Your first step is get the codes read on Volvo compatible gear, usually it’s a cheap sensor but reading the codes will confirm and tell you which wheel.
Brief dip in the water should cause an abs error.

" it’s a cheap sensor "
Not so cheap anymore! Had an "ABS/DTSC" fault on my car yesterday which resulted in turtle mode & grabbing brakes, diagnosed as a wheel sensor, duly replaced by the excelent Volvo assistance service, cost of the sensor - £114!!

Alf,
I have the warning and it feels like the brakes are trying to slow the car down, is that what you meant by turle speed? Taking it to the local repair shop tomorrow, could you tell me the name of the sensor you replaced? |

Had the ABS/DTSC failure come up on my XC60 2014MY.
Plugged in a cheap Topdon diagnostic reader rather than firing VIDA up, and it showed the rear left wheel sensor was faulty. Decided to view the live data stream for all 4 wheel sensors to make sure it was the issue, and all 4 sensors reported correct wheel speeds, all in sync. Then all of a sudden, the rear left sensor would randomly drop to 0kph. Replaced the sensor and the error hasn't returned. Purchased this ABS sensor: https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/pagid...nsor-417660598 Was really easy to fit. Wheel of, unplug old sensor and remove torx screw. Remove old sensor, fit new one, screw in torx bolt, plug sensor in, wheel on.

I had this problem about 5-6 years ago, reckoned it was an ABS sensor. Didn't have a compatible code reader at the time, so I guessed it was the nearside on as it was more exposed to salt water etc. Wrong ! It was the other one.
The OEM one that failed lasted just under 3 years, the cheap Ebay ones, albeit known makes, are still OK after 6 years !It's odd that they didn't use the same sensor for both sides, would have cut tooling costs by 50% Original front ones replacement, even if you have long Torx drivers, expect to remove the calipers, discs and dust shield: they live in a steel hole, rust makes them difficult to remove. I fitted the new ones with an anti seize material so if they ever need changing again it'll be easier |
