Hi Dave,
thanks for getting back, yes the injectors have been coded in, as they are the ones which were installed on the replacement engine. I it showing some additional things, I have discovered, that if it does not start within 2 or 3 seconds of cranking, I stop and retry. Sometimes it will fire, others not, but if I retry several times, usually from cold, it will start, and run fine. It seems as though there is a missing signal, or possibly it is just a case of the cam sensor being in the correct position. The engine is as far as I know the same 185 as was in before, same year etc. Only difference is mine is the R-Design, where I don't think the donor car was. I have an oscilloscope meter coming to check whether the injectors are actually being triggered, as when it does fire, there is no spluttering or missing etc, it fires straight in perfect, almost as though the ECU has something not right, then as soon as it is present, fires straight up. |

you mentioned timing mark on cam pulley.. this is unique for every engine and once the three screws are undone it has lost it's precision. you need to use the cam locking pin through the back of the engine into the back exhaust camshaft pulley hole . then line the crankshaft marks up with the crank positioning tool which goes in a hole in the block behind the starter motor. The mark on the lower casing and pulley should then be perfectly lined up .When engine has run then make your own new mark in the edge of the cam pulley with a small chisel . ( the original may line up in which case fine )

Today checked the cam sensor, all voltages seemed correct. It looks to be an electrical issue but I am now lost Once warm the car starts with a slightly longer than expected crank time, when cold it can take 5 - 25 attempts The fault codes are ECM-1870 Swirl actuator control - Negative drift ECM-1880 Swirl actuator control - Faulty Signal ECM-3000 Camshaft position (CMP) sensor - Faulty signal I know the swirl flaps need replacing but feel I need to get to the bottom of the troublesome / non starting first |
