Xc90, anti skid service required, 0095

Hi just wondering if anyone can help I’m new to the site, I’ve just bought a 2006 Volvo XC90 Executive it has a new 12 months mot and just after receiving it, the message ; anti-skid service required, and a code 0095, just wondered if anyone has any ideas of the cause and if it’s an easy fix? or a costly one? The car seems to run fine having lots of power etc and has covered 130K I would appreciate any help you can give.

It would be a good idea to get the car plugged into the Volvo diagnostic system. Have a look for a Volvo specialist near you. 0095 with the anti skid light is related to the DEM or diff electronic module with it not having communication. It could be worth as a quick check making sure the plugs are clean and free from any corrosion and dirt. I have had a similar issue before and cleaning the plugs sorted it out and I’m 99% certain it was also the 0095 code. The DEMs have also been known to fail which are not cheap to replace.

Also worth checking if you didn’t when purchasing, the prop shaft shouldn’t spin by hand if you jump underneath it. Common issue on earlier ones and not cheap to fix.

Also have a search in the XC90 section of the forum, loads of info and helpful people there. Depending how handy you are with the spanner’s a lot of stuff you can do yourself but if not finding a Volvo specialist garage rarther than a normal one would be the way to go however you mention you have just purchased it. If it’s from a dealer then perhaps it should be there issue?

Is the ABS warning light lit on the dashboard. If it is (like on my V70), it could be the ABS rings cracked and need replacing.

Depends which 0095 DTC it is .
If it is ABS 0095 it is a comms fault (CANBUS) between the CEM ( Central Electronic Module ) and BCM (Brake Control Module) .
If it is BCM 0095 it is a fault in the DEM ( Differential Electronic Module ) in that the BCM is not receiving any signal from it .

Hi it was an abs 0095 code

The code actually reads: 0095, Communication Between Control Modules. Communication Problems With Active On Demand Couplings.

Does n`t look good if it is the ABS Module .
Probably means a new unit = very expensive , if you can get hold of one and it will need to be programmed to the car .
I don`t think many main dealers will be interested now because of the age of the car .


Are you sure it is ABS ?? Your reference to active couplings sounds more like the DEM , as Graham mentions . His is good advice . Also worth pulling the CEM out to check for corrosion or dirt / water damage .

No surprise there really - the electronic systems on this era of Volvo have aircraft like redundancy designed into them. For example the accelerator pedal sensor has two independent circuits, one traditional analogue, one digital.

So i most cases, even if there is a significant failure, your Volvo will get you home.

Could be the vehicle needs the tracking done. I had a similar message on my xc90 after I fitted tie rod ends

Ok it does look like it’s the DEM Any one know where the best place is to get a new one from?
