Bonnet support rams
Hi all,
A simple question (I hope). is there any specific reason why the later phase 2 v70s from 2006 on, only have one bonnet ram on the left, whereas the older models appear to have 2?. The reason I ask, is i was working under the bonnet today, and a mild breeze blew up and started to close the bonnet (nasty whack on the head as a reminder ). Now as I have only just aquired the car, I do not know when or if the ram has ever been renewed, and it probably is at the end of it's service life. I was looking on VIDA and realised that some VINs have 1 ram, and older models have 2. Is there anything stopping me from fitting 2, or is there a very specific reason it only has 1?. Many thanks in advance, Phil. |

I just did this very thing, bought a new strut for the left, and fitted the old strut to the right. (or you could simply fit the new strut to the right). Careful you do not ping off the clips when removing ( I have a gravel drive, were a b*****r to find !) You will need to buy a couple of 10mm ball studs (and have about you some suitable nuts for them), in addition to the new strut.
From eBay Studs https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111293093987 Strut https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/364407446807 (gone up in price since I purchased)

Hi,
Thats reassuring, do I take it going to one was just cost saving?, as wasn't sure they had made the bonnet lighter and didn't want to twist it when it was closed, but it was heavy enough when it hit me on the head. Thanks for the links, very gratefully received. Cheers, Phil |
