Default 100k Service Advice Please :-)

I have an 850 T5 comming up to 100K, what sort of price should I be paying for a service?
When the car has this many miles on it should I go to a specialist rather than main dealer and save some money as I don't think it will make much difference to resale value (but I could be wrong)

I live in Winchester, so anywhere in Hampshire would be good.

Thanks in advance :)
Andy

You could try Just Volvos, who are a mile off Jct. 2 of the M27. I had them do the 70,000 and 80,000 mile services on my T5.

I was happy enough with the 70k service but I have my doubts about the 80k service.

The 70k service, came with a tick sheet of work carried out, according to Volvo, with an advisory sheet which I thought was quite good. The 80k service was missing the tick sheet. Given the 70k service advised changing the front discs in ~3,000 miles and the 80k service suggested changing the same discs in ~6,000 miles. Made me think a bit.

Their labour rate was £34 p.h. last year, when I had the 80k service done but I'm somewhat loath to go back for the next service - due about now.

Oil went from £17.23 to £22.52, which is a bit more than inflation

Anyone else used them? I'd like to go back, given they're cheaper than Kings in Southampton but the last experience has made me uneasy.

What oil did they use to be so cheap?...if you go for a top priced brand like Mobil 1 then that could easily add £60....

Don't know what oil they used. On the 70k service sheet, it says 5.3 litres of synthetic, on the 80k sheet, it just says semi-synthetic oil.

I did wonder about going over to the place below Woolston Bridge, is that Empress Road?

TBH, I think I'm just going to do it myself. There's not a lot to do at 100k, although I see the service schedule, calls for the cambelt to be changed, aside from that, it's all standard stuff.

Andy,

The 100k service is not, from memory, that big. No plugs - done at every 30,000, no air filter - done every 40,000, although that seems a long time, cam belt possibly required depending on year. Up to 1994, due every 50,000, from the 1994 model year on, every 80,000. I service my own T5 (75,000 miles)and it really isn't that difficult. A lot of the service is carrying out various checks, so not that many parts required. You may have to include a brake fluid change, and possibly anti freeze, sorry, coolant, change, but thats about it. Collegues of mine use Just Volvo and seem very pleased with them. Good luck either way.

Gary

PS T5 plugs at Mr Dealer are around £50! Does anyone use these, or do you use 'normal' plugs?
