Default V70 poor dip beams

I've had my 2004 V70 D5 for a week now and so far so good.

The only real "problem" I have had is the dip beam is pathetic when driving on un-lit country roads. I haven't had a play with the adjustment yet other than to check the load compensation adjustment works and it's set at "0". The offside unit looks to be pointing too far towards the centre of the car and they may be set overall just too low.

Are poor dip beams a generic problem or are mine just likely to be badly adjusted ?

I fitted 50W HID's to my motorbike (a BMW R1200GS with pathetic lights) and the difference was incredible .... not just he mariginal difference (not necessraily significant improvement) messing about with different conventional bulbs.

Was I just spolied by the good lights on my 850 ? :-)

Just got my V70 (2005 model) and was thinking how much better the lights are than on my previous S40, especially dipped beam, so I suspect there is something amiss with either the bulbs or adjustment on yours (or both!)

They do, and they are soooooooo much better

Oh... and they do retrofit

http://forums.t5d5.org/index.php?showtopic=1258

Light output is considerably better

Strangely enough, a friend of mine took the unusual step of cleaning (using a piece of wire and cloth) the inside! of his V70 (pre 05) headlight. (the reflector and the inside of the glass) and found a marked improvement.

Don't quote me on the H7 bulb though!

Enter 'aamcg' to get 10% off at the checkout.

You can get cheaper but I've heard this works well with the later Volvos.

Well that's he car seviced now and no big problems to report (I've just had it a week so that was good news :-)

The lights were way out of adjustment so the dip is much improved. It does make me wonder why the previous owner didn't notice it and why it came to be pointed too low and too far towards the centre of the car in the first place though .....

The dealer repared a tyre puncture they found , fitted a new £3.95 rear washer jet which was broken and gave be a litre bottle of oil. I thought that was very kind until I saw I was charged £11 for the tyre repair and £9 for the oil ! Anyway you live and learn and it's not worth falling out about.

Thankfully I can shelve my HID dilema for the mo and concentrate on whether to re-map etc. and is so with what !

Cheers Jase.

Pardon my ignorance but what's the format ?.

Is there a specific colour of anorak and string-backed driving gloves to be worn ? (Just joking !) :-)

Tony , are these 35W or 50W ?

Do you know if these are modified in any way for the electronic diagnostics on the Volvo
