Not on my 98 S70, if that's anything to go by.

Is it possible a previous owner has removed the bulb - or that the bulb has blown?

The service light is on the bottom right of the right hand group of warning lights. Not really worth replacing unless you are going to start servicing your car when it comes on.
If your car is a manual you could pinch the bulb from the automatic transmission light which is bottom left of the right hand group of lights. It shows an arrow pointing upwards if it were to light up.
Does your engine warning light work which is to the left of the service light and is a lambda symbol?

Yeah My Management Warnign light works..

Having refered to the Haynes section on Lighting, and refering to the section on the dash, refering to the section on the top facia... Then rolled the dice, got 4 and been told to go to page 45 where the Grublin Troll will eat my brains...... I think that the light can stay off untill I have time to either take half the dash appart or the said Troll goes on holiday...

Oil , filter and air filter change is a lot quicker...
