Default Headlamp condensation - how to sort?

Hi Everyone

I've done a bit of reading on this subject but found nothing definitive.

My o/s/f headlamp has some condensation in it. When I collected it this morning it had NONE, but now it's some. I have a feeling that's probably why my dipped beam bulb has died too in that lens

Now, has anyone fitted the new volvo rear caps with goretex or similar to help the lens vent?

Either that or has anyone tried just drilling a few holes into the back of the standard cap to see if it helps?

Thanks

Will.

When I fitted my HID's in the full beam I ended up with condensation in one of the light units. Fitting HID's involved drilling a hole and putting a rubber grommet into the light back cover.

I repositioned the back cover and the grommet and used my DRL's for a few days to dry it out- no problems since.

Dry it out and reposition/replace the back cover would be my advice.

Ok, it's not been raining today and the lens was full of mist when I first went out to the car this morning.

I took the screw on cap off the back of the dipped bulbs and then drove to work (I have DRLs on at the moment).

Mist still there when arrived at work (30 mins drive) but have just gone out now to the car and its almost ALL gone.

So - what to do now?

Drill some holes in the back of the cap to allow the lens to breathe correctly to try to stop the mist coming back in the future? Fit the volvo 'service' cap?

Me too. I've tried drilling small holes in the caps to no avail.

If I dry it out by removing the main beam bubs and driving around (I know, it's naughty...) it just mists up again a few days later...

Well mine still has no condensation, but its only been a few hours!

I've refitted the cap on the back of the light (without holes drilled) so lets see what occurs now

I think it took about a week or so for the condensation to come back on mine.

I had condensation in my o/s unit last year, and just drove around for a couple of days in good weather with the cover off. That cured it. I wouldn't drill holes in it, as this could also let moisture in.

I drilled 3 2mm holes on the underside of my covers & this has solved the problem for me during all weather conditions.

I used to own a 3series bmw that had the same misting lights problem, the bmw owners forum recommended drilling holes in the rear light cover, it worked for me and it has also worked for me on my V40.
