Ideas and interest - Charity event
Ok, I'm thinking of arranging a charity event in aid of the Foyle Hospice, local charity funded cancer hospital in Londonderry. Not only do i want to raise a truck load of money for them, i want to draw attention to the work they do. Its the kind of thing you dont appricate until it lands on your door step.
Open to ideas, and help, i've never organised anything like this before. Had a couple of suggestions of looking for freebies ect for raffles. I still need ideas of venue, events ect As some of you know, my mother in law is terminally ill and has been in the hospice over 11 weeks now, so this is the reasoning behind the charity event, i'd like to give something back. Most of the family are involved in the sponcered walk next weekend of the 2 bridges. I've talked for sometime now about a car wash or something at work. So come on folks, all suggestions welcome (sensible ones anyway) I've posted this on other forums as well, as i want an excellent turn out, i'm going to ask others to post on other forums too when i have a better idea of what / where / when i'm doing this. Many thanks in advance

How about a treasure hunt at £10 per car?
Get prizes/trophies donated by local businesses.

In 2007, I organised a Red Nose charity run around Belfast city centre on a Friday night - we had a turn out of about 24 Minis and VWs (Beetles and a Camper) and racked up £300 for charity. Obviously everybody got lost after a couple of streets (even though we had printed out the route) but everyone had a blast and enjoyed the night. I put together little red bags which included a printed grille plaque, window sticker, balloons, clothing patch and a raffle ticket for a set of halogen headlights donated by a local Mini supplier.
If you could get permission of the Hospice (if they have the space!) using their car park would be an ideal starting venue. If they were in a suitable location you could think about having a local run - as suggested above, a drive-by tresure hunt would be cool. Perhaps you could intergrate the venue with Halloween or Christmas and add a theme of some sort. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to ask local automotive businesses to come along and offer a car-related donation which you could raffe at the end. Depending on the turn out you may have to look into seeking police attention. I'm not sure what way public liability insurance works but anytime I've ever orangised something similar I've just stressed a disclaimer. I'll catch you on MSN as I may have a few ideas for you and I'd be happy to give you a hand if need be. |

charity event
Hi mate.
You could also try doing something down your local pub. I once did one for [P.A.P.A] an autism charity.Get a load of people to donate stuff for a rafle, sell tickets and make loads of money.I hope it goes well for you. Good luck ,Mark from Belfast. |

Ok peeps, after seeing how NI-Vaux got on this weekend, i think i'm going down that line, i've sent a few more emails, but what i would like is a family day. So what i need from you lot is displays, Car care, car performance, car improvements, i will be asking for Police accident display, traffic branch display with hopefully a questions and answers kind of set up, DVTA to display their enforcement vehicle, and possible the equipment. I'd like some sort of kiddies things there too, bouncy castle or whatever you can do. Chppy food van also. I need suggestions of a carpark this can be held, and who to contact. Going to ask local business for suppost as well.
So if you guys can help, PM or email me to AndyD345@btinternet.com BTW this will also be a fund raiser for Marie Currie (sp) along with the Foyle Hospice.
