Viewing V40 for sale advice
I may be going to view a 1.9d V40 that's for sale at the weekend. What would you advice to keep a look out for. Any parts prone to failure?
What maintenance parts or parts that need to be replaced with wear and tear are on the expensive side of things and should be checked or taken into consideration in the sale price? When should the timing belt be changed and how much does it cost to do? Thanks for the help, Regards, George. |

The timing belt on Volvo's stagger's me, they need changing apparently around ther 80K or even 90K (newer ones are up to 100K i think i've read)
My Volvo had its belt changed at 87K and is still running a dream. I'd get it changed at every 80K to be fair so mines not due till nearly 160K miles! Cost wise they can be expensive as I've read on this forum as they need to change the tensioner's as well. i think the cost varies from around 300-600 (roughly) depending on wether you go to a back street dealer, volvo specialist garage or a Dealer, many other member's im sure will confirm this. As for part's needing changing, again if you can, get the car serviced before you get it, i did with mine. This at least elimates filters, oil, tyres sometimes as well. Again im sure the other guys and gal's on here will post a few more detailed things to look out for.

belt change interval
the 1.9d requires the belt changing every 6 years, or, 60.000 miles.

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...ht=timing+belt The main decision from what i gather is 80K is more common, but can be as high as early 90K's as long as the tensioners are changed as well. Volvo's are built to last and go the distance, newer one's im sure are clocking 100K before belt changes now.
