Default S 60 2004 electric door lock problem

Seen the sticky saying this is an issue but I'm not sure whether my problem is the typical one or not.

the doors lock on the key button, but then the front passenger door unlocks again as if it had been left only part shut. repeated lock /unlock cycles eventually gets the lock to stay down, as does use of the internal locking button.

is this the typical problem? any idea as to the cure? where do I get the necessary bits? and iis there a diy bodge - I'm reasonably handy so wouldnt hesittate to take the lock to bits if it would allow a repair.

Hi, I had the same problem weeks after buying my 2002 S60. To start with the door lock popped up occasionally and then it eventually did it all the time. I got mine replaced, so I'm not sure of the diy fix.

From your description it could well be a door lock solenoid which is sticking. The doorlock will bounceback from its attempted locking motion as the solenoid will be failing to engage.

The only way you are going to find out what is causing the door locking malfunction is to remove the door panel;
1. Check wiring from door through to door pillar for any breaks in connection.
2. Remove door panel and watch operation of solenoid and lock assembly. My gut feeling is that the solenoid is sticking and only sensible cure is a replacement (which for some cars is an assembly incl the solenoid).

Had a pug 406 which exhibited exact problem you are describing. Solenoid was the culprit.
