2004 V70 D5 intermittant fault
Hi everyone,
first post here although I have been a "lurker" for a while. I have a 2004 V70 D5, 80k miles and never missed a beat (always serviced by the stealers) However, a few weeks ago the car appears to have developed an intermittant and annoying fault. Only in 3 rd gear... Accelorate hard up to 3.5 / 4000 revs and the engine appears to default to "limp mode" (lack of power) and I get the message "engine service required" in the information display. The fault, remains for two maybe three minutes then clears and normal service (ful power) is resumed. I can change gear when its happening and the engine doent die or splutter, there is no smoke from the exhaust either. The fault comes and goes, but only in 3rd accelorating hard onto a motorway or dual C (when you least want it to happen) I took the car for a diagnostic with Volvo - the techie came back after half an hour. "we need it for longer, it could be the turbo, it could be the intercooler, there are a number of fault codes were not sure what it is" I wonder if anyone else has experienced something like this - as it comes and goes, I have a feeling I have a sensor gone wrong or a split tube somewhere, maybe even the airflow meter / throttle sensor? I travel on fast road / motorway every day but the fault doesnt happen every day..... Anyone any ideas, before I get stitched for a new intercooler and turbo!!! Thanks in advance |

This sounds very much like the Diesel Filter.
This is exactly what happened with me, limp home after pushing it very hard. Switching off /on cures till the next time you give it some wellie. Mine blocked up between services (it had been changed). dodgy diesel I believe. |

Always change the fuel filter on a D5 before any other diagnosis, it will cure many power/fault code evils

Gents, thanks for the quick replies.
Will get a filter and see if that cures the fault, although I find it unusual that the problem doesnt show itself in any other gear as I sometimes er,,, accelerate pretty hard in every gear....sure you know what I mean |
