Hi all - still on the hunt for my first Volvo since my old Amazon a few years back - I've settled on a v40 now need to sort out the engine - I'm not interested in performance - safety (hence a volvo),reliability and economy in that order, so what engine would any one out there recommend (even spec/model advice accepted)
- muchos gracias amigos, surfer bob. |

Hi there,
I suppose a none turbo model would be for you as the turbo side is more to go wrong. A 1.8 or 2.0 litre would be more responsive than the 1.6 and the diesels are reputed to be quite responsive. I have a 20 litre v40 and am happy with it apart from the lack of space in the rear, engine accessability and fuel consumption compared to my old 240. Regards. Vaughan |

Hi I have 1999 'V' plate v40 2.o se for about a year now. I bought knowing it had the knocking sound or clunk when you move off or come to a stop. This is nothing to worry about as it is the top engine mount worn, quite a common problem cost me at volvo dealer to replace £130 the noise sounds much worse that it actually is. possible bargining to someone who does not know. had had a safety recall re brakes not wokring first thing in the morning, apart from that cannot fault it. getting about 30mpg around town
