Default S40 - Induction Kit - Good Idea, Bad Idea?

Hello All,

Mine is a 1.8i Petrol 1998 Volvo S40

And my query is about Performance Air Filters / Induction Kit.

I have seen them on a load of S40 T4's on S40 concepts.net and various other websites, but, my question is will i do any damage putting one into my 1.8i, there seem to be quiet a few cables and pipes going in/out of the standard air-filter box and an induction kit will bypass these i think, what are they for, has anyone else here put an induction kit on a non-turbo S40? What were the results. Any and all replies appreciated.

I would'nt have thought it would be worth bothering on a 1.8 none turbo as it's hardly a rubber burner.
Have you checked the air filter for dirt?.
There are these resistors to fit in place of the air sensor on the induction which are supposed to give you UP TO 20bhp more.
They list them on ebay as CHIPS for about £6,but all they are is a 30p resistor.
They would probably make a difference as it makes the engine think the air temp is cooler and alters the timing and fuel to suit.

I'm not really concerned about power, its more that throaty induction sound i'm after, was just wondering if there aremechanical risks to the car by changing the air-box with its plenty of pipes and wires for an induction kit that would make some connections redundant. Basically is it safe or not.

By the by, fitted clear side lights (running lights) over the weekend and i think they look fantastic, i must post a picture.
