I have recently purchased a Dec98 S40 XS 1.6 petrol.
The engine cuts out when slowing down and changing down from 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st. Once stalled, the engine will restart immediately. Has anyone got any ideas what the fault could be - and if so, how do I rectify it |

I have a 1999 S40 2.0T, and over the past few months I have been having a problem with my engine stalling when the car is idle. I have only once encountered stalling while the car was moving, and that was when my automatic gear was shifting from first to second.
I have had Volvo run diagnostic tests on the damned car, but no fault could be detected. However, asking around, I have been pointed towards checking what my revolutions were when idle: and at about 500 rpms, that was way too low. I am not sure yet if that IS the problem, or just another symptom. I am still in the process of trying to determine just WHAT is the problem. But what I have heard as possible things to check are: fuel injection, air filter, fuel filter, idle control, alternator, spark plugs, electrical circuits. Sorry, I have not given much useful input for you here, but at least, you know you are not alone! |
