Exclamation Fuel tank - Hole and leaking

Dear all...

Someone smashed a hole in my fuel tank and siphoned off all my petrol. The hole is not very big (<10mm) so was planning to patch her back up.

Are there specific products available in the UK for this?
Will Araldite epoxy resin be alright to hold on a metal patch or will the petrol decompose it?
Is the tank steel or aluminium or other?
What are the MOT regulations on a fix?

Cheers for your help,
Adam

Put a hole in it? What tossers. I dunno about resin though, some sort of plug as a temporary fix maybe. If your handy a trip to the scrappers and a swap might be in order.

Go to any decent motor shop and get some putty metal it is light grey in colour with a dark core, all you do is cut off the amount you need fold it between your fingers and thumb until you feel it getting warm then apply it over the hole, and leave it until it sets rock hard.

'Fuel tank repair' on google came up with this:

http://www.selectselect.net/acatalog...epairs_64.html

I think you will find the tank is plastic.

'Plastic Padding' Make a repair kit called (I think) 'LEAK FIX'. This is outstanding stuff! I have used it to provide long term repairs to steel motor-cycle tanks, and I have recently repaired a VW polo sump, four rust holes!!!

You have to get everything clean and dry etc.etc.

Your tank is probably themoplastic, for which Araldite is not recomended...
As for LEAK FIX; I dont know if it is I will look at the tube later on (not at the work shop now).
If you could drop the tank, you might be able to put a nut and bolt through it!!!! Have done worse.

The low life will always be with us.
Good luck, let us all know what you have to do.

Some a******e done that on my previous recovery truck, it was plastic too, I got a flat screwdriver red hot with a blowlamp and sealed the hole up but this was with diesel DO NOT DO THIS WITH A PETROL CAR!!! It was very effective however and i did this because the repair goo I got wouldnt stick properly, it is ok to do with diesel (smokes a bit) but I repeat not on petrol you could end up severly burnt or worse!
