Default V70 2.4T auto box

Have been offered an auto box from a 2002 S80 D5 and want to fit it to a 2001 V70 2.4T , will it fit ? I am not too concerned if there is a slight mismatch in gear ratios provided it would fit and that TCM will correctly control the D5 gearbox , although if the ratios are miles apart then I would not try it . My 2.4T was purchased with a faulty gearbox but it seems to have repaired itself despite the previous owner getting fault codes read from a garage and the car now drives ok , but I know gearboxes cant fix themselves so am expecting it to fail again , when I bought the car it would only move in reverse and inch forward , we towed it the 20 miles to my house . The only thing done to the car has been to unplug various electrical connectors around the gearbox and replug them back in , I know from past experience this can sometimes be the cause of problems but I am not relying on it being the solution and the ATF is black not the red it should be and because the replacement gearbox is cheap enough I want to try this route .

hi, i would consider a full gearbox oil change, before delving into deep water, seems like your gearbox locked down and possiblely went into limp mode, untill you diconected the wirering. then came back online so to speak. if the gearbox fail they dont rectify themselves. im sure others on here will say the same, hope this helps rob.

Bernard, you've had this problem for a while now, thought you would have flushed the box by now, the first thing i would have done?

prm/rob , yes you are right I bought the car in November with the main intention of using it for spares but I cant bring myself to take it apart as other than the gearbox its in great condition and really want to make use of the car even if its just for 12 months and then sell it on , will maybe bite the bullet and do an ATF flush before trying the replacement gearbox after all I suppose using the Vauxhall jws3309 it could be done for about £70 and I have my doubts that the ratios will be correct from a D5 and the TCM may have different settings ?
