Default 1998 S40 T4 Performance

Hi all,

Had my s40 for a week now and im mightly impressed, well, apart from the drab interier, and handling!

How would i find out if its had a re-map, as im sure its to fast for standard?! Not that im complaining, it certainly puts a smile on my face.

Ive read up on re-maps on this site, but cant find an answer to my question.

If i find my ECU is from the factory, i will most certainly be re-maping it, but what i want to know is, if i re-map a standard car, ie, standard filter, exhaust, turbo, boost pressure etc and then decide i want to upgrade these, will i need another re-map for each change i make?

Thanks in advance,
Tony :-)

Suppose you could it get dyno'ed.

if its giving out a lot more power than standard, and you have no upgrades on it such as exhaust etc then safe bet its been mapped.

If you do get it mapped, then decide to start upgrading, small things will be fine such as performance filter etc, but if you start doing exhuasts / turbos etc then you will need a new map. Some companys will provide these updated maps for free such a RICA.

When I first got my 1998 t4 I thought it was quick then took it in for a tune at local dyno place and found out was only getting 3/4s throttle. They ordered a part for it and DAMN did it go after that!! Wet was a night mare though and wasnt keen on the overly light power steeering. Made you feel like the front was going to start washhing wide all the time though your eyes said was doing what it was told.

Are you sure about this?

On a 98 T4 you can only re-map the ECU via a board flash (RICA) or MTE can do it via the 'ODBII' port.

My suggestion would be that any upgrades would require a custom map from the tuner who re-mapped it in the first place (or another RICA dealer of course).

It's certainly not a DIY thing.
