Default 240/940 ECU interchangability?

Hi all.

A friend of mine has a J reg 245, 2 litre manual injection with a CAT. He thinks the fuel ECU has packed up so is looking for a replacement. I have found an ecu from a K reg 944 2.0 manual with a CAT. Can the 940 ECU be used on the 240?

The part numbers are,

240 ECU- 0280 000 936
940 ECU- 0280 000 949

Any advice appreciated. Ta!

P.S, the problem with the 240 was the injectors were "injecting" constantly meaning the bores filled with fuel.

Thanks Ben!

Ive got one of freds chips in my fuel ECU on the 944. I still dont know what it does exactly but it seemed to make the idle much smoother.

According to the list, both of the ECUs ive listed are for 2.0 N/A 940s so possibly my friend already has a 940 ECU fitted to his 240.
