the rear shocks on my 340 dl need replacing and i have been told that these could be a direct fit and should even stiffen it up a bit
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LAND-ROVER-DEF...3%3A1|294%3A50 can anybody confirm this for me as the bloke who reckons they will fit says he aint 100% sure |

They will as such fit the back of a 340 but the land rover shocks are a bit shorter.
The ones in that listing are not going to stiffen the back by any amount as they are basic oil shocks. I do properly engineered units to fit both the front and back of the 300's |

if they are a bit shorter (how much shorter?) can they still be fitted?....what effect would they have ...would the car end up lower?......and would there be any negative effects?

I think they are about 2" lower. They will not lower the car and if they were short enough to to lower the car you would have big problems.
The shorter damper will probably be ok. The issue you will have with those ones is tehy will be quite soft and be no use for drifting or fast road use. |

hmmm...could they not be stiffened up by changing the oil in em?....i also heard from someone that different land rover shocks used in a 340 will give different levels of stiffness The higher the number (ie, Defender 90, 110 etc) the stiffer the shock....are there prehaps shocks from another land rover that may be more suitable?

I have a feeling sarcasm failed to make it's way across.
Landrover dampers are a ridiculously silly idea. Get good dampers and springs, don't try to get spring rate from the damper. Basic physics, which if not understood shouldn't be bodged. Some research will lead to what the number in landrover's actually means (where is the rolling eye smilie when you want it)
