XC90 Towbar and towing
Hello all, just ordered a new XC90 D5 Active geartronic for delivery next year and need to get a detachable tow-bar fitted.
My Volvo dealer has offered to have one fitted including software download for £420. The best offer else where so far has been is £324 for a Witter detachable tow-bar (no software included). In your opinion am I better going for the Volvo tow-bar or does it not matter too much. What does the software do? My dealer tells me that it alters torque and gearbox settings, brake sensitivity, disables the rear park assist, fog lamps and adds trailer stability (if fitted to the caravan). Is this true as I cannot find any info on the Volvo web site to support this. Many thanks. |

you can still get the software up date done, i fitted a thule towbar and wiring and kit to my S80 but i fitted it myself and it all cost me £150 Bar was from towequipe on ebay and he was selling off old stock. a big saving and worth doing. I then got a price of £9.40 for the softeare and £35 both plus VAT to have it loaded at local dealer.
so i real terms between the two deals you are looking at, the Volvo bar is about £50 more. On a brand new car costing how many thousands? It will also save you dropping off the new car for a day somewhere to get the bar fitted then dropping it back at the dealers to got the software update, £20 for fuel doing the running about, so your only £30 better off. you also save any arguements with regards the warrenty if something goes wrong and you have a Volvo bar fitted from new youv'e saved two days of not having the car. i'd stump up the extra. Enjoy the new car when it comes. |
