Default 360GLT Replacement Car

Thought i should start a new thread for a (possible) new car

Found a good deal on an '85 360GLT, with a B200E motor, 250,000k's on it, what else should i be looking for, as i had immense problems with the steering rack on my prior '84 B19E model, i know the front shocks have a limited life, and the gearbox gave me some greif too, what other areas on the car (aside from rust, pnl damage) should i quickly (or carefully :))check?

I assume by the 'k' reference and the fact you got a 'good deal' you are not in the UK which changes things a little. Not that we mind but it makes it easier if you declare these things in your profile.

In the UK these cars don't cost anything, a good car will always be a good deal.

Its hard to be specific when the question is so general, there is plenty of info on the web and newsgroups. Mainly rust is the most difficult to sort, particularily sills. Almost all faults can be fixed economically but as usual its better to buy a car with the minimum faults you can see to start with. Its quite easy to buy a car for £200 and spend £500 getting it into good running order and well serviced.

I'm surprised you had gearbox problems, it is the same box as the 240 and is bomb proof, driveshafts can have problems with the coupling but its rare in my experience. Steering racks probably don't last much more than 100,000miles but recon units from good suppliers are cheap enough (even PS) if you can do the work yourself.
