XC60 T6 Wheel Alignment
G/day
Enquiring whether anyone can assist based upon personal experience. Since taking delivery of my vehicle it has had the tendency to steer to the left. This is the fourth wheel alignment that the stealers have carried out and it is only the last process that has reduced this problem to acceptable limits. The stealer has advised they have always made adjustments to the stated Volvo specifications however they communicated that those specs also contain a fair tolerance variation. Toe in adjustment appears to be the solution to this problem. Can anyone advise whether the Volvo specs require amendment to overcome this annoying issue. Thanks in advance Gravy |

Conducted a forum search on this subject. Appears many XC90s have suffered from like symptoms and owners have incurred long protracted rectifications to obtain a cure.
One interesting post stated that Volvo inbuild a non neutral steering function to negate the vehicle tracking into on coming traffic if the driver falls asleep. Has any one any evidence that this statement is factual. Thanks |

the revised settings are camber at the front and revised tracking at the front and rear, the later cars with 18/19 inch sport models were mostly affected.
the inbuilt steering to the left is not fact, but the car following the camber in the road excessively.

From what I recall of steering theory from when I did my C&G the castor angle will cause the vehicle to appear to pull the left on a UK road. This is becuase the camber of the road is such that the left hand side of the car will always be slighly lower the right which means that the caster will cause the drift to the left. This can also be magified by inorrect tyre pressure
If you have ever tried to push a supermarket trolley across an inclined carpark you will know what I mean. There was an occasion when when drivers of Ford Escorts were reporting this to us and we could not duplicate any of the effects in the workshops or our test track - they were all absolutely flat. When we went out onto the open road it happened. |
